Definition: Pension funds are a type of institutional investor who goal is to invest the huge sums of cash that corporations set aside to fund pension commitments made to employees. The goal of the pension fund managers is to be conservative so as not to lose the principal, while still beating inflation.

Examples:
When pension fund managers make big mistakes, the ones who suffer are the retiring workers who have no pension!
