What is the Doha Round of Trade Talks?

By Kimberly Amadeo, About.com

Question: What is the Doha Round of Trade Talks?

Answer: Each round of trade talks is named after the location where they were initiated. Doha is named for the city of Doha in the country of Qatar, where negotiations began in 2001.

The previous round was called Uruguay, which started in Puntadel Este in Uruguay in 1986, and removed tariffs in developed countries for tropical products and established the basis to create the WTO itself.
